Book Synopsis

The journey of self-discovery through art and memory serves as a bridge between fractured parts of the self.

This memoir explores the intersection of mental health, creativity, and the search for wholeness. The author reflects on her childhood experiences, including the trauma associated with boarding school and the development of an eating disorder. She frames these struggles not as mere failings, but as defensive mechanisms or "superpowers"developed by the mind to cope with feelings of powerlessness and a deep-seated fear of growing up.

The creative process allowed the author to externalize her internal chaos. Through mosaic-like collages, she explored themes of control, scale, and fragmentation, eventually using words to give her internal life a voice that her physical voice could not project.

By addressing the divide between her intellectual mind and her physical self, the author learned to treat her body as a sanctuary. Moving beyond the aesthetic pressures of society, she found that embracing life experiences, including motherhood and aging, led to genuine self-acceptance.

Ultimately, the memoir highlights the importance of integrating one’s experiences to achieve a sense of sovereignty, proving that art is a powerful medium for healing and personal liberation.
